Last Tax Year...
- Volunteers prepared and filed 820 tax returns for families who qualified for the service resulting in $889,000 in total tax credits and refunds for clients served
- The Clients served average annual family income was $28,000
- The free service saved them an estimated $165,000 in tax preparation fees
Volunteer Opportunities Available:
- The VITA Greeter/Intake Specialists Greets and screens all taxpayers to ensure they have the necessary information and documentation required to complete a tax return. In addition, Intake Specialists explain the VITA packet to each taxpayer, assist them in completing information and ensure they are aware of all services available. Intake Specialists are required to attend a one-hour training session.
- The VITA Site Coordinator Manages all aspects of the VITA tax preparation site including operations, oversight of volunteer preparers, and quality control. This is a seasonal position – December through April, 40 hours per week including some evenings and Saturdays. Training and support will be provided by the Manager, Special Initiatives.
- The Certified IRS Quality Reviewer Serves as the tax expert for a tax site and is responsible for ensuring that all returns prepared meet the quality requirements of the IRS VITA program. Quality Reviewers review each tax return completed by a volunteer, correct errors and provide tax knowledge and guidance to volunteers.
