Volunteer: CASA Volunteer Advocate

A Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Volunteer is a trained citizen (21 years or older) who is appointed by a judge to represent the best interest of a child in court. The children that CASA Volunteers advocate for have been abused and neglected and placed in to the foster care system. CASA Volunteers work to help ensure a safe and permanent home for the child as quickly as possible. A CASA Volunteer is an extension of the "eyes and ears” of the judge.

After screening, CASA Volunteers participate in a thorough training and "graduate" through a swearing-in ceremony where the judge delivers the CASA oath.  Once appointed to a child or sibling group, CASAs work closely with a CASA program staff member who will offer on-going coaching, guidance, and support.

The first step is to learn more about this unique and life changing opportunity by attending an Information Session.

Volunteer: Habitat for Humanity is building LEADERS on our Construction Sites

Lancaster Lebanon Habitat for Humanity does more than build homes and faith. It also builds leaders. Habitat provides hands-on training and mentorship for new leaders working alongside staff on our construction sites. You will develop new construction and leadership skills while at the same time enriching your community. You will have the opportunity to build a team and build a home from the ground up. Habitat is looking for new leaders to share in this challenge!

The Crew Leader’s principal function is to coach the volunteers to produce acceptable results in a safe manner. A Crew Leader can usually guide four to five unskilled or semi-skilled volunteers. Crew Leaders demonstrate tasks, maintain standards, monitor safety, and ensure that the volunteers have enough meaningful work to have a satisfying experience. A Crew Leader should be a people person, possess some basic construction aptitude, enjoy leadership, and be able to learn tasks quickly and then demonstrate those tasks to others.

Our crews are currently working in North Cornwall Township in Lebanon County and we plan to begin another project in Lebanon City in the next few months. Please contact Audrey Lilley at Audrey@LLHFH.org if you are interested in learning more about joining the team to support affordable homeownership in our community!

Volunteer: Hospice Volunteer- Helping Someone At The End of Life's Journey. Could That Be You?

A Hospice volunteer can help in many ways: spending time with the patient while the caregiver runs errands or has an appointment; providing companionship for the patient; getting together with small groups of volunteers to sing for the patient; running errands for the patient and family; sitting in vigil with patients who are nearing the end of their journey; providing bereavement support during the bereavement phase; and assisting with office and clerical duties in the Hospice Volunteer Office.

Whatever your talents may be, there is a way to help someone during the end of life's journey:

Do you like to cook? Perhaps you could prepare light meals for the patient and family. Do you like to garden?  You could assist the patient with weeding or planting their garden beds?  Do you enjoy cleaning? (Yes, some people do!) We always have patients who need assistance with light housekeeping (dusting, vacuuming, etc.) Do you enjoy singing or play an instrument?  You could bring comfort and joy to the patient and their family with your musical talents.  Seeing a non-responsive patient smile in response to your music is an experience that cannot be described! Are you a veteran who would like to visit and honor our veteran patients?  Do you have an interest in organizing a new veteran program for our hospice patients who served? Are you an artist?  Perhaps one of our hospice patients would enjoy working on some art with you. Do you have your MSW or Counseling degree and would like to assist with bereavement support for our families?  There are always bereavement phone calls that you would be able to assist with. Are you a member of the clergy and would like to provide bereavement support?

The possibilities are endless..........please call and let's discuss YOUR interest!
