Who We Are
Since 1979, WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospice has provided a patient-centered approach to medical care and support for patients at the end of life.
Hospice is a multidimensional program of care designed to treat the person as well as their loved ones, not the disease, and provides a full range of services for medical, emotional and spiritual needs.
Our hospice volunteers are an important part of that compassionate team!
What We Do
Giving as little as one or two hours a week can make a huge difference for a hospice patient and family. Volunteers can specify the amount of time, the time of day, and the type of volunteering they wish to provide.
Whatever your talents may be, there is a way to help someone during the end of life's journey.
Our current needs include:
- Sewing "Memory Pillows" for our bereaved families
- Providing comfort through singing or playing a musical instrument for the patient
- Sitting with the patient for 1-2 hours to allow the family time to go to appointments
- Providing companionship for the patient (reading to patient, helping to write letters or cards, playing cards or games, etc.)
- Assisting with light housekeeping (dust, vacuum) or light meal preparation (making a sandwich)
- Running errands
- Licensed Beauticians willing to provide the patient with a haircut in the patient's home
- Sitting in vigil with a patient who is near end-of-life
- Providing bereavement support to those who are grieving
- Assisting with data entry in hospice volunteer office
